I haven't been through there in years. I think I remember the clock tower still being there. It's the kind of thing I slow down to look at.  I am so old that I can remember when Bondi was as rough as guts and mainly populated by Maoris. Byron Bay was a funny little town in the middle of nowhere and the Gold Coast was shacks and a 90 minute drive to Brisbane on a 2 lane road. Where I live now was meant to be the capital city of Queensland, it's older than Brisbane too. The reason it didn't become the major hub was because the sailing ships took too long to navigate on the rivers to dock here. Even back then the Qld Govt was too stingy to build a shipping canal !

Is that the clock tower pub peachy you remember or just the clock tower they seem to forget that Byron bay was whaling town with many a whale dragged up the beach and cut up on the spot I bet they don’t put that in tourist brochures for Byron bay and in Bondi you had to look out for the sharpies and the skin heads the developers certainly got hold of the Gold Coast and made a fortune in the beginning and still are
