Oh wow. That is gorgeous.  Mine was in the ground for 7 years and was yet to grow a trunk when I moved housed.  I never gave the ungrateful thing another thought until now.  I think I feel deprived.

Why would you plant a coconut when you could plant this. My favorite big boy palm.

yes! the newer planting, they dont have much soil but are still beasts

From the Donn Carlsmith estate in Hilo. Photo taken during the IPS 2022 Hawaii biennial. Mr. Carlsmith, a graduate of Harvard Law School, served as the International Palm Society president from 1978 through 1980. The type specimen is on this property as well.

Here’s a photo from the then Akina garden, (previously Carlsmith), must have been 10 or so years ago. One of many C. carlsmithii on the property.
