Could it grow in Palma de mallorca?

Hey, I'm wondering of the cold hardiness of the Carpentaria acminata, anyone knows if it could grow in my climate? is it similar than a royal? I heard that is the fastest palm so it could recover quite fast from the winter, no? Maybe somewhere protected with canopy above, east facing? I will appreciate your replies.

No experince with it but if it has a similar cold hardiness to Roystonea regia, you will be fine with it in Palma.

Oh, and greetings from Port de Pollenca

I would love to see some photos! PM me, and we can share some photos of our palms. It's always nice to see people growing tropical palms in Mallorca.

Hi Richard,

finally another palm enthusiast from Port de Pollenca. Where do you have your property? I thought I would be the only one in our little village who has an interest in palm trees.
Best regards,

Philipp

I  fear not. I used to grow both spp in my cold frame and Carpentaria was a less vigorous grower showing more winter stress. No damaged leaves but yellow ones. Keep pls in mind, that we speak of an unheated greenhouse, so the palm was protected from wind and precipitation during winter. Anyway this palm was tranported to Rhodos Island and most probably has been already planted in to the ground. I will keep you apprised about its performance in one of the most favorable outdoor environment in Greece.

A good move would to be to search for pictures of outplanted specimens in SCA, if you could find any...

Hi Brandon, I have C.acuminata growing in Alicante and I planted it as a small seedling when I first started collecting around 5 years ago and its still going strong, last year I planted a good number of seedlings and all have sailed through the winter with no issues. It's pretty quick but not as quick for me as the royals.

Hey, If it grows in Alicante, I guess that it could grow in Mallorca. I will probably buy a little seedling and keep it in a pot, so I can take it inside my greenhouse in winter. And when it gets to a decent size I will plant it in the ground in a sunny sheltered area.
