Palm grooming tool(s)? Thoughts appreciated!

As the picture below shows, my B. alfredii needs to be groomed a bit. (A lot!) Getting those leaf bases off is hard, and I note that others among us appear to have mastered that art better than me.

So paging Drs. @LJG @OC2Texaspalmlvr @MattyB and @BS Man about Palms! I suspect you have a few thoughts on the subject in light of your well-groomed palms.

Or anyone else!

Milwaukee hatchet is what I would try on those old leaf bases. Definitely too big for normal loppers. @DoomsDave Your Alfie is becoming a true beast.

Went out in the garden this afternoon and got to it.

Took off about ten leaf bases.

Used a keyhole saw; coarse teeth would have been better.

Six inches of trunk plus about another foot or so when the next batch of leaf bases comes off.

Just saw this... I use something similar Dave. But only for a few fronds at a time. Bought an electric Milwaukee chainsaw for use when several at a time.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Go with technology get a reciprocating saw but never trust a farmer with a chainsaw
