Palm Beach rain

Palm Beach airport, about 17 miles from my house, got 5" of rain from a little low spinning off the coast last night. I went out to survey the yard in the dark, and the driveway beneath the truck was still dry. Aaargh!!!

It rained all night and I thought it might be the that Tropical wave that was located in the Bahamas that finally moved over. Look's to be clearing up now.Well what's another 10 inches going to do anyhow!

I'd settle for a good 1" out of the sky to add another 6" to the pond.

Here in the Acreage, it started raining about 7 and was still raining when I went to bed at 10.  I woke up a couple of times and heard the rain through out the night.  My yard is really wet this morning and it may be a couple of days before I can cut the grass.  Love all the water!

I heard it in the downspout last night too. That's why I was surprised to see how little actually fell. There were puddles on the gravel road this morning, though it was just packed/graded last week, so it doesn't take much for it to puddle.

These cattails were submerged 10 days ago; lost almost a foot of pond depth to evaporation. (Photo taken this morning :(  ):

Fastfeat, I can't believe you got less than an inch last night. At this time of year, it is not unusual to get heavy rainfall of the tropical variety usually associated with stalled fronts combined with stuff from the Bahamas.I remember one particular bad event about twenty-five years ago ,where we received almost 20 inches in 24 hours.Flooding everywhere and wild. It is hard to believe that only a small amount worked it's way to Lox.

Last year, I was working in Homestead all day, sun blazing, with a few clouds. By the time I made it home to Miami Springs, drove into water that was lapping at the front porch--over 10" that afternoon! All drained away by evening.

If I got a quarter of an inch last night, I'd be surprised. I'm out watering the nursery right now...

It's bone drryyyyyyyyyyy over here.  It has rained twice in the last month.  Today's 40% rain chance was bumped down (surprise, surprise) to 20%.

No one cares about your current yard temperature 🙃

I had about the same experience as Kitty. I'm in the Acreage as well, but close to Royal Palm Beach proper and logged 1 3/4" last night. Parts of the yard are flooded and will take a few days of no rain for it to percolate through so the grass can be mowed. Was really glad to see it though and feel for you Fastfeat. Been through so much of that thunder/lightning/wind, but nary a drop of rain of late, and that SUCKS!

What I can't understand in Florida right now is this drought situation that is centered in Tampa. I was looking at a map that showed exactly what Ray is talking about. What do you think is causing it?

I don't know what's causing it. But I doubt I'm not alone in wishing for at least one good tropical storm (not a hurricane) in the next month before the "season" is over. Looking less and less likely though :( ...

I don't know either but I think it has been going on for a couple of years.  I think someone from Sarasota told me they have been on 1 day a week watering for a couple of years.

Water is such a precious commodity and yet we don't seem to understand you can't continue to build and put a strain on the very limited supply.  People here in the Acreage and Loxahatchee (especially the nursery owners) who depend on wells are very concerned about the coming months.  While we overall have had rain, Lake O is still 4+ feet below normal.

I'm starting to worry about my well water right now. Water that I use for the yard (doesn't pass through the water softener system) at my place has lately started to get an oily film developing, if I leave the hose trickle in the patio. Also, if I put it in the dog dish (white plastic), it will turn brown (iron oxide, I presume) and cloudy in only a few minutes. Yuck...
