Hey, everyone. Somewhat new to palm talk but just bought some coccothrinax borhidiana seeds and wondering what everyone's opinion on the best way to germinate is. Also once I get these seeds going, any tips on fertilization? I've read a few different random threads online but any success stories and tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    For small, rare, seeds, I like to use the jiffy pot kits with the mini greenhouse. When bought,it comes with 72 compressed peat pellets.(only have to use as many pots as you have seeds for) No fertilization necessary for the first year as it is too easy to over do it on tiny plants and kill your whole crop.

    They are pretty easy to germinate using any method. Like @aztropic says they are easy to over fertilize so be careful. I just use a tiny bit of 9 month slow release fertilizer once they come out of the community pot and get planted individually. I also use a more alkaline very well drained mix on my Cuban Coccothrinix palms. It just seems to make them happier. 

    18n. Hot, humid and salty coastal conditions.

    This one I had success with but read that it needed high heat and I put them in a community pot covered, under the hot sun, then moved them to the heat mat. They did pretty well but I think took a while to come up, maybe 2 months?

    It's always tricky imo, knowing whether the media has enough moisture. Coccothrinax like it dry, but you can't leave them totally dry...for long...

    Thank you so much for the feedback. I'll give it a go and post some pics on my progress. 

    I have a couple seedlings in soil for a couple months now but haven't seen any growth shoots yet.

    Yes, indeed! I’ve been meaning to upload a pic but was able to get 2 out of the 10 germinated. First leaf is around 2 inches on both.

    You need some feral cats to keep the squirrels away. Because you live in my hometown, I'll give you 2 free feral cats for every cat you take.
