I suspect P kontumensis will be hardy for you. Vietnamese species, especially those from Central or North from some altitude typically have good hardiness. Honestly I reckon even further south like Sydney or Wollongong they’d thrive.

There a lot of pinanga species out there, a few are a bit delicate but for most varieties they are quite tough. It’s the Calpytrocalyx varieties that are tricky with few and far in between that are cold tolerant.

I believe you're right, I germinated some years ago but lost them as seedlings.  I'm using a lighter mix this time similar to what you posted in another thread.  The seeds were given away at the November palm society sale in South Florida and quite fresh.  All 5 Carpoxylon seeds germinated and 4 of 5 Veitchia arecina so far.  😁

Iam no expert but you learn from your mistakes, and that I have done made the mistake with carpoxylon. You learn as you grow and grow as you learn!

Finally my long awaited decipiens seeds are germinating, they have come the long way around to Australia, so a big thank you goes out to @Harry’s Palms in sunny California. He went to all the trouble of collecting them and seeing them on their way to sunny Australia. From there they were distributed to a few local growers. And the rest down by myself. 
There has also been a few others still germinating on the heat mats. Lanonia dasyantha large form another batch I had are coming up.

The decipens where not placed on the heat mats just the warm summer temperatures got them going!

A long journey but they got to the propagation bench so to speak. A wonderful gift of seeds that shall always have a story behind them as to where they came, thanks Harry!
