Ah, so good yer treatin' me baby right!

I've got one that's about 25 feet overall. They're native to Columbia, and they'll take serious cool weather. Might be good for Sam Frank's Disco, or even further north.

Here’s mine. It’s had a tough life including a few few freezes down to about -2/-3C (27F or so) and a transplant which nearly killed it. It’s slowly growing back 4 years later! Very slow in cool climates.

I had one that grew to 20 feet+ (10 feet of trunk) from a one gallon in about fifteen years but succumbed to some sort of but rot or fungus. I got on a ladder and cut all the way back to living tissue but, unfortunately, that was below the growing point. :(

Definitely slow to start but now is simply jumping out of the ground. Wouldn't be surprised if it reached 20 feet in the next 5 years given favorable weather conditions.

What is ideal conditions for these guys? Do they prefer cooler or warmer climates?

I planted one last year at a five gallon size and it's now starting to push some good growth. I have limited experience but seems like a palm that needs time to establish. I water a fertize good in the summer heat.

Not to sure the exact environment my one gets extreme heat in summer up to 40 degrees Celsius and cold down to 2 degrees Celsius if I watered it on a regular schedule iam sure it would be a bigger palm it’s been growing for 20 years they can’t be that slow surely or are just slow ?

Mine is in pretty much full sun all year round, without the extreme temperature fluctuations living on the coast. I have noticed its rapid growth since the floods of 3 years ago and good year-round rain since.  Apparently, these grow in many conditions, including on floodplains of the Amazon. I can't be sure the age but certainly less than ten years.

So I have noticed myself that these seem to wake up with lots of water . General consensus seems more water for these guys and they will grow . @DoomsDave when I seen it was huge . If I’m not mistaken it’s over by your becariophoenix ? Any pictures?

I have two, both about 20 something.

One was planted in the center of three Sabal mexicana.  It's just about invisable.  It's as tall as the Sabals but they totally hid it.

The second planted on the bank of my dry stream bed.  Because of the scrub trees still waiting to be removed it too is hard to see. I really only have photos of it.

First was taken in the stream bed kinda looking up, the second high on the western slope of my valley and you can see it poking it's head up above the scrubs.

Looks great poking out from under the undergrowth. Can only hope mine doesn't take 20 years to reach that height, and if it does, hope I'm still around to enjoy it.

It's over 20 feet tall planted down in the dry stream bed.
