I dug a trench in the ground to run two PVC pipes for my fish pond intake and return lines.  The trench was left open for about two weeks while I laid the pipe, made all the connections, pressure tested it etc...and it rained every day, heavy rain.

To the right of the trench where it slopes back up to grade, after a week of rain I noticed two "shelf like" fungus developed.

This is very alarming to me as I remember I had this on a 50' tall Royal Palm 2 years ago and it was diagnosed to be Ganoderma and had to be cut down.  This new fungus while in the soil, is about 15 feet from where the Royal Palm is, and 9 feet from a row of 8 mature Chinese fan palms.  Can this fungus latch onto Chinese fan palm roots then spread into the lower trunk?  Is there anything I can do to kill it off?

There are many different species of Ganoderma, only Zonatum attacks and kills palms.  I couldn't say for sure if those conks are Zonatum or something else.  But I'd remove them and ziploc them up into the regular landfill trash, to prevent spores from spreading by the millions.

Yes I sprayed some WD40 on them then removed & bagged them.

There are also a few in the hole where the 50' tall royal was.  I cut it down and grinded the stump after ganoderma got it, and now it's a 30" diameter round depression with new ganoderma fungus growing inside the circle.
