Dear Friends  :)

90% of the time i get get seeds from my friends of this forum but there are ocassions when even i am tempted to make an order for seeds since Rps site stock inventry usually is so full of new plants that i visit this site often http://www.rarepalmseeds.com/small.shtml

And my pruschases are usually small packs of 10 seeds in each variety.and the payment is done by my friends working in the u.s using international credit cards.and this firm ships the seeds to me in less than 3 weeks time to india.

And i must say that they have given this time complimentry seeds as practised by http://www.rareseedsource.com/palms.php

but rareseedsource.com does not ship seeds to india, that is the only problem with this site.but even they supply fresh seeds and i had good successes rate.but i had to wait till my friends came back from the u.s. :)

Okay now what i was saying is that Rps delivers fresh seeds fast & quick to india and this is

Kris,

Don't waste your time/money with seeds from rareseedsource.com.  I had 0% germination on about ten species (nothing difficult to germinate) from them.  They did ship bonus seeds and in fact one of the bonus packs of seed was the only species to germinate.  They also shipped an incomplete order and never responded to my inquiry regarding the missing seeds.

Dear Carlo's,Daniel & robert  :)

thanks for the suggestion but iam not a big player(mine is a small time operation).and most of the desired plants & palms are all collected but our memeber tours & bineal stills does at time tempt me to buy few in small numbers.and till now iam doing fine with the rps seeds..and no complaints from my side..

And daniel lewis your macro or super macro shots has put my camera to shame_simply superb stills of the coin & the worm !

And carlo's as for your consignement iam shocked by the germination results..but i usually buy when in their site they announce or flash.gif as new.only that time i place my order and my requirement are usually is for ordinery plants..

Dear Robert _thanks for your suggestions...But do you know memebers who ship seeds to india in small quantities accepting paypal or credit cards ? if so kindly mention it here so i and others will try that source in near future...

thanks & love to you all,

Kris  :)

I have received free weevils every time I have ordered Brahea decumbens, from 3 different seed sellers. I guess these seeds must be tasty :D

Kris, do you ever buy seeds from Ortanique?

Dear Mike  :)

i have not tried Ortanique till now,and i do not know wheather they ship seeds to india in small quantities & do they entertain small orders..?

you have seen my invoice in the above post..i import seeds for my personal use only and iam not a nursery guy.

and rareseedsource.com site does not have any celing on the minimum amount one has to place a order.and usually i buy seeds like sabal,Nolina,etc..iam not interested in specilised items or rare varities.since in india, nursery guys propogate only coconuts, beetle nut, areca palms, raphilis, livistonia's,pygmy palm, cycas revoultas, lipsticks, travellers palm..i happen to see so many varities of palm only after joining this forum !  :(

And ironically all stated that talipot palms are native to south & south east asia but i have not seen any one selling those here.but i imported it from Rps just 10 seeds 3 have germinated and is doing fine but the rest did not mould but are sleeping.may be heating treatment will help..

Psedo phoenix ekamani seeds 10 nos were bought from Rps 3 germinated but damped of in just 2 months due to over watering..

lots of love,

Kris  :)

Kris,

Here is a quote on international shipping from <a null Give them a try, I am sure you will be happy with their seeds. I have had very good germination from them, with very few exceptions. There is no minimum order as far as I know.

                   Best regards, Mike

"International shipments: Our website is currently not setup to handle international orders. If you would like to place an order - please send us the list of seeds and the quantity and we will send you a quote (within 24 hours) with the total. You can then pay us by credit card, wire transfer, paypal or check. All shipments outside of the United States of America will be shipped via EMS or air letter post whichever offers the best value in terms of shipment time and money."

Kris,

The fact that RSS ships to India doesn't help you if their seeds are no good.  As Mike mentioned I suspect Ortanique can sell to you.  I am sure many forum members would be willing to sell you fresh seeds from their trees also.  Post a message in the for sale with the seeds you are looking for and you may be surprised.

Namaste Kris,

I think that you are counting your chickens before they have hatched, so to speak.

Or perhaps more appropriately; you are counting your palms before they are grown plants.

I have been getting seed from rps since 2000 and have had more bad experiences than good.

Last time was in  April when I purchased 100 each of two types of Areca vestiaria (sprouted). Unusually, they arrived promptly after only a couple of weeks but not one was sprouted and still not one has grown.

Every time that I have ordered 200 of a particular sp, I have only received about 170 and been charged for 2 lots of 100.

All complaints have never led to a satisfying conclusion.

Once the seed was not even dispatched until 6 weeks after my credit card was charged.

I say that most seed dealers are just middle men dealers and people on this forum should try to cooperate to trade fresh seed with each other.

Not so practical if one wants thousands for business but it is more controllable for small numbers.

I only persist with rps because of the need for the supply of a Phytosanitary Certificate and a 'reputable source'.

Obviously the freshness is largely out of control of these middle men dealers as they only have their harvesters word on that and often in those places people are poor and will stretch the truth for the sake of making another buck or rupee.

We can only really hope for a true supply of fresh seed when people with their own seeding palms distribute them and they have not travelled from one continent to another and sat in a seedbank for an unknown period of time before being sold to a buyer on another continent.

Good luck with your germination.

Dear David  :)

thanks for your encouragement.. And about the nubian desert palm i hardly know much about it..:D

Dear Jim  :)

i understand what you and other memebers have said...i must tell you i have tried around 6 other online site before that but

not a single seeds sprouted, and folks in my house all laughed saying Kris don't you have any brains"how will a palm from a distinct land with different soil & atmospheric condition grow in a hot wet coastal climate like south india"!really those words i will never forget in my life it was very discouraging to me..

but thanks to my software friends working in the U.S who kept sending the requested seeds to me now & them.

I never wish to embaris any online seed dealer since by quoting their names and telling that their stock is bad !

since i really happen to know the harship & difficulties of seeds collectors & nursery guys only when i ventured into this hobby !

Iam a person who thinks_seeing is believing and for ten or 12 seeds i cannot approach wholesalers who notify in our

seed & plants trade section.they usually deal in 50 or in 100's.while my requirement will be just 6 to 12 fresh seeds for my personal use.And i do not know wheather they accept international credit cars or paypal kind of transaction and will they ship to india which never request for any kind of fitness certificate !

And i must say that if i request for a small quantity of seeds chances are some may even give it free which i feel delicate to take..or accept !

So that's how it is...and Jim i never count my chicken before they hatch... :D   :D

I will update this page now and then and folks who have some thing good to say kindly join me..as i told iam myself a critic number one but realities always bits...

I must say that most of my desired collection is over,so a couple of dollors in gamble with the above site is perfectly okay with me.But i will take note of what Mike & Robert has suggested..And also thanks for those who were conscerned that kris should waste bucks on seeds which will never germinate into healthy palms..

In this process i will also keep you all updated as to what is the progress of the above seeds..at my place.

And i must say i usually push the standards to the breaking point_or to its fullest possible limit.at that stage usually all things buckle under pressure. ???

thanks & love,

Kris  :)

Dear Kriss :)

About Gift some seeds in small packages:

I believe, that when the seeds are acceptably fresh,,, sellers (?) You get the fair amount.

And... When have the time and are not fresh, often, sellers put more quantity.

Companies will not thrive, giving the material.

This is what I think.

Best. Toni :)

Dear Toni  :)

i fully agree with what you said.but its natural that all seeds cannot be sold to all in a year itself ! so some will be left behind and i suppose the competetion is tough now a days due to online transcation..all the countries exporters of seeds have their own website or one need not always buy seeds from a perticular firm ! And its wise on the seed dealers part to off load seeds which are comming close to its life expetancy, given away as gifts or compliments than throwing it into garbage or selling it as regular seeds billed and spoil their reputation..?

But one thing i must tell every one is that these seed sites and my own goverment is really helping me out in collecting some plants that are either not in cultivation or avalible ready in nursery shelves..

seeing some countries strict laws on agriculture imports i consider my self blessed and the climate is yummy for all these babies... :)

Lots of love,

Kris  :)

Hi Kris,

Those Medimia are great palms, I wish you good luck with them. I think they will do well in your climate, for a desert palm they tolerate humidity well. They will look just like a Bismark seedling when they come up. Their roots want to go deep, so I suggest a very deep pot for these.

One problem I have had with them is that the roots will find the holes in the bottom of the pot, grow through them and swell up untill they are stuck. I lost a few because of this, I think the roots are very sensitive to being disturbed. Mine are around 25 inches tall, and they are in 3-1/2 gallon pots with no holes. (not a real good idea) I have to be very carefull not to overwater.

Please keep us informed how they do, I realy love these palms.
