Syagrus Schizophylla x Romanzoffiana (Coconut Queen) Cold Hardinesses and Max Height?

I have been trying to get some more info on Syagrus Schizophylla x Romanzoffiana (AKA: Coconut Queen Palm) but there is not very much out there.

Does anyone here have any experience/knowledge about the Cold Tolerance and Maximum Height of this tropical looking beauty?

I bought 2 of these from @Phil Jungle Music as 25g palms. They sailed thru freezing rain at 24° Next year freezing rain again but at 20° both burnt to a crisp. I would say it's a little less hardy then a regular Queen. They are lovely palms and it still bothers me that I lost them. Better protection would've possibly got it thru it but I'm positive they had no chance against Palmageddon. Better option would be a BxMonty which I have and it sailed thru last years 17° freeze with minimal protection.

I too am curious about cold tolerance of this palm, they have some nice ones over at Turner's right now, pretty pricey though.

Corpus Christi, TX, near salt water, zone 9b/10a! Except when it isn't and everything gets nuked.

I went to go take a look and they really are beautiful (and overpriced) but OC2Texaspalmlvr post told me all I needed to know about gambling with the Coconut Queen. Turners most knowledgeable employee (really nice guy) actually admitted that Cold Hardiness could not be verified and encouraged me to take to the internet and due my research before taking chance on this one in Corpus.

He did say that they are currently watered once a day in the early morning to the point of saturation. The smallest one was under shade cloth the largest one was not. I am still trying to figure out how much water on my Palms is enough, but not too much in this heat.

@Dwarf Fan if you can get a hold of some 5g palms I would say definitely worth a try. A large instant gratification boxed palm isnt worth the eventual let down.

I don’t have any palms that I water daily, for palms planted last year or early this year I give them a good soaking every 4 or 5 days and they never look stressed. They could go longer but I do want growth. There are many established Washingtonia, Sabal, and Phoenix palms in my neighborhood that don’t get watered……..ever.  I have water-loving palms that were plated this summer, Roystonea and Archontophoenix, that I do give a good soaking about every other day, the royals look great and never look stressed, the (small) kings are struggling, regardless of how much water they get.

I have clay soil so it holds water well, sandy soils like in the bluff or the island won’t have the same water retention, but will also allow for easier root expansion from the palms.

Agree with this, buying small palms isn’t much of a gamble if you lose something, but you might also get to enjoy it for decades so investment vs potential payoff is favorable. Coconut queen overall sounds like a reasonably good palm for this area, I would like one (if I had any room), but I wouldn’t pay a big price for a big palm. Nobody carries smaller sizes in the area though.
