Just put mine in the ground this week!
* should have gone in a long time ago, so I'm nervous 😬

I posted a photo only a few days ago in a different thread, so I'll post DIFFERENT photos here! Figure no one will be offended by too many mealybug photos, especially if they're from different perspectives than my earlier photo.

I'm really hoping it makes it... will do a "happy dance" when I see 3" of growth on the new spear. It's my most prized palm so would be a devastating loss (*think of a wonderful thought... any happy little thought*

This one got planted as a small 1 gallon years ago and these 3 clumps of grass invade and I have hit them many times with herbicide but it seems like they don’t want to die.

@JubaeaMan138 Here’s my Mananjarensis I got from @Josh-O in March. I Waited about 2 months and said “screw it…I’m going to throw this thing in the ground”. It’s years behind @iDesign and @John hovancsek plants but gotta start somewhere.

As you can see, it had pretty good color below the soil like Stacy’s. It doesn’t possess a ton of bugs on the petioles like I’ve seen and when it opens it’s frond, there is a definite pink/red to it. I assume this will change as it gets older.

Picture taken today. No spear when grounded in June so it passes the 3” spear check

Here’s a picture to note color on trunk and slight color to leaf when opening. It opened this leave in April.

Since you got it from @Josh-O I'm sure it's the "real deal". That's where I got mine, though it wasn't cheap (I remember Josh mumbling something about his "kids' college fund" when I asked the price).

Who knows... yours might end up healthier than mine in the long run, for less cost. Time will tell... but it's looking great so far!

Here’s an update on my Mealy. I wouldn’t call it fast by any means but steady movement and I’m ok with it. Definite color to the emergent leaf.  Last picture shows the previous leaf shape.

Mine is still small but I wonder when I can expect for things to start going plumose. It doesn’t have the heaviest markings and wasn’t the most colorful one of the batch when I bought it but it was the largest one available. I have a lot of heeled Dypsis/Chyrsalidocarpus planted out and this guy has been very fast compared to my other ones since it was thrown in the ground from a 1 gallon four months ago in Oceanside, CA
