Online nurseries allowing small palms to be shipped to California? Frustrations of not having a garden.

I'm a little disheartened after sacrificing my 20s to achieve a career where I'd be able to afford a garden of my own, only to be released into the world during a housing crisis and now in my mid 30s and still don't have a garden of my own. It's always been a dream of mine to have a garden and it is my true passion.

That being said, I move around a lot, and always try to plant trees where I'm currently living.

Right now, I'm living in the unforgiving Sonoran Desert in El Centro, CA, and my work has fortunately allowed me to use their campus as my own personal garden. Fortunately, most places have irrigation set up. Unfortunately, my workplace is getting renovated, and they keep on shutting off the water, so I constantly have to check if my plants are getting watered or not. I was just out of town for a month, and came back to many casualties, which I am so sad about, because I have been so much money, time, and sweat into keeping these palms alive - and surprisingly had many successes survive last summer as well as this cooler than average winter - but many palms didn't survive one month without irrigation while I was gone.

I have no intention of giving up, however, as this is what I'm working with - and it's my true passion. I get a lot of comments from friends who don't understand financing a garden that isn't yours, but I guess they don't understand what it's like to be passionate about something.

Anyways, shipping to California isn't the easiest given the restrictions, so was wondering if people on this forum from California had a list of websites they use to order small palm trees online or other tropical trees.

One of the obvious answers is Floribunda.xyz, which I have used in the past with great success, and I'm sure everyone on this website would recommend them as well, however their June 2023 price list doesn't have anything I'm wanting to experiment with.

What other websites do people in California use?

I'm sure you know about Junglemusic.net @Phil or many etsy - ebay type sellers who are on PT.

I like Junglemusic.net (they appear to be establishing a parallel website junglemusic.com)

I've mail ordered a bunch of palms from them and their selection is good. All palms have arrived in good condition.

So sorry for your losses, btw... It's really tragic when you're so invested in their success. I've been there, lugging 5 gallon buckets of water to get those palms a drink.

Thanks for the sympathy! It was definitely very disheartening to see all the deaths, considering how much thought I put into the species I selected, paying for them, then hand watering them, acclimating them to the sun, then being so happy after seeing their success last summer and over the winter, only to have a bunch of dead ones when someone didn't follow through after they said they'd water them 😩

I'm always up for learning new things!
