What a fun discovery for you! I wonder if that is a painted backdrop in the photo? The palm added to give the photo dimensionality. Lovely creature, such a sweet expression.

Where was the photo taken that they were growing Kentias?  I am guessing the photo dates back to roughly the 1890's based on the hairstyle and her dress.  Does that sound accurate?

Iam not sure where or when the photo was taken most likely in Sydney and as for the kentia palm I think it was a prop in studio or a traveling photographer history has to be handed down or it is lost my grandmother gave me the photo and her memory was aging on the back of the photo was written To dear mother love from Ada and all I know is our family are of Irish descent yes she is a very  beautiful woman I can see my mother in her eyes thank you

Aquí hay una foto de mi tatarabuela con una palmera kentia, una foto real de la época victoriana cuando las Howea fosteriana estaban de moda. Tenía que compartirla. Puedo ver de dónde viene mi insecto de la palmera 🌱

Yes right down to the kentia palm in the picture with, I don’t think the palm was hers, but you never know she may have grown the palm.

Very interesting, Richard. Yes, now it's clear that it's in your genes, so to speak, this passion for exotic things that she passed on to you.
Besides, she seems to have been a pleasant, nice person with her heart in the right place, according to my intuition.

Your great-great-grandmother is as beautiful as your soul, Richard. She has your eyes, which are full of life. And her image is the enduring presence in you. Her elegance is your very intelligence personified. And all her beauty is your essence. She shines forever, if she is your own mother, in generations. And you are her present, and she is your past in you.

Thank you my grandmother also could grow a dead stick, I  watched her every afternoon watching her  water her plants. I learnt so much from my grandmother a little goes a long way and dont overdo it with plants, let them do it for you.

That’s pretty amazing . The good ole Howea F. been a palm favorite for generations of those that love plants. The Brits have been growing them since they stumbled on Lord Howe Island. Great photo , I would say it definitely shows that this is genetic for you , don’t need a DNA test for that. Harry
