That’s how I took it . I marked the leaf that is opening a few days ago hotnhest wave coming this weekend so we will see how that mark looks late next week

Looking great so far!  It seems that it has just about dessicated the old leaves.  Hopefully it'll start a new spear in a few more weeks!

I see the obvious mark from here appears to be maybe just under 2"

To update those curious, I came up with the "Magic 3" rule" after observing a LOT of transplants of various rare palms. I slowly noted how many of the "big" palms would push say 2" of spear growth fairly quick.... then slow down.. maybe at 2.5" or so and stop.  It seems that what ever stores of energy the palm had could be used to push new spear growth, but by then it was dependent on uptake of nutrients from it's "new" location. Continued growth meant a successful transplant and able to get the water and stuff it needed.

It seemed if it reached the 3" point, they kept going. The sad/frustrating ones are the ones that stop short.

Sooo after you brought up the 3 inch rule i

marked it . I want to say it was an about 3 weeks after transplant . It had Definetly moved prior to me marking it.

I think I see a little bit of petiole sticking out!  Even if it doesn't get to ~1 foot long like the last fronds, that's a great sign that the new frond may completely open.  At the very least it won't get jammed up in the center with a future spear.

Yep second picture you can see the beginning of the petiole for sure I was pretty happy to see that . 

Trimmed off the dead leaves no use for them anymore . What do you know a spear waiting on deck . 

Really remarkable.  I wouldn't have expected it to do so well out there--and that soil looks rough. You did it!

Thanks . Honestly I’m shocked it worked . yeah soil is actually really good soil old citrus grove . But we’re I planted this is on a hillside loaded with big rocks 

Anyone have any guesses on its age I’m thinking around 10 years?

Sheesh that new leaf looks pretty the speed of this plant so far in the heat seems as though it should not have any problem pushing the second spear open before winter 👌

Great growth in second spear compared to august 2nd 

Got a short break from Hilary decided to snap some pictures 

One thing I noticed about this plant is it puts on serious spear growth when it gets hot High 90s low 100s . Can’t wait to see how the next leaf looks when it opens . I’m thinking it will happen soon I read that this species tends to open the frond halfway out . Which is exactly what the first leaf did about this length or so . Also cool little Alocasias popped up next to it . Must of came with transplant . 

Got some rain yesterday evening . Snapped this picture pulled the shade cloth off so it could get the nectar of the gods . Looks absolutely killer . 24 oz chela for scale .

Well here is my second leaf opening now 

This plant has really blown me away 

Temps are suppost to cool down to low 80s for day time highs . I am thinking about removing the shade cloth permanently now . Thoughts on that are appreciated . Been around 100 for that last 3 to 4 days . So low 80s I think should be tolerable I had been removing it when temps got around 80s prior for couple days here and there and it did just fine . 

This is great to see!  Amazing how well this is doing after it was dug.  I have had one in a pot for the past 3 years.  It was given to me because it was a runt and had a spear pull.  After a lot of peroxide and fertilizer it started a new "doinker" push.  After a year, it started another "doinker" and gave up the previous growth point.  I re-potted it with the newest growth pointing up.  Grew for another year and did the same thing!  It's now on it's 3rd "doinker" as it waits for construction at my property to get to a place where I can just plant this thing in the ground finally.  They seem like incredible tough plants!

Excellent ! Yes I agree thisnpalm is really tough it seems . I did get an exaggerated size root ball on it . Winter will be the real test . What do you think Jason on the shade cloth through winter? We are mild right now and so far it seems ok . You were the one early in the thread who recommended the shade cloth I think. And I think that ended up being key to its success

Hmm, I’m not sure the shade cloth would do much in the winter. I always just used them in California for protecting from sun until acclimated.  Once acclimated then they need to face the winter and hope for the best. And you want as much heat in the soil as possible in winter to maybe shade cloth would actually be a negative??

I wouldn't risk sunburn, why not wait until the winter solstice to remove the shadecloth ?

Happy seasons of the witch !!! Here is second leaf on tahina little smaller than the last but still Flawless can’t see it in the picture but it already has its 3rd spike deep in the crown poking out .won’t see that spear until next spring

Weeelllll, since you are past your 2nd spear, it looks like the transplant was a success!

Next is ongoing environment... and all indications look great! Kudos and keep it up!  Yay for heat and good work!!
