It was a nice day (ask Happ for the specifics).  Then it got windy.  By 4 or 5 in the afternoon there was a "WOF" (wall of fog) headed our way.  Here's some cool pics.

I mean like 'nein' und 'schwein' These are pronounced with a long I. Whereas Wien (Vienna) would be pronounced with a long e. Verstehen?

German words ending in single unstressed "e" like in Name, Frage or Mutter are pronounced like "uh" or singular "a", except for a few words words where it is pronounced like "eh" as in bitte? (oddly enough people in Cincinnati say please? when they didn't hear what you said, probably one of the few places where you'll commonly hear that).

If the "e" falls at the beginning it can be long or short.

Very few words in German have "ee" or any double same vowel in them. Aachen is one that does.

An "ei" is pronounced like a long "i" and an "ie" is pronounced like a long "e". When you see "oe" "ae" or "ue" it usually is replacing an umlaut with the same vowel, but pronounced the same way.

I think that's enough German grammar for everyone today.

Great shots, Matty  :D And obviously not taken today w/ current San Diego readings: below 20% humidity/dew point temp.  Were the photos taken last week when the marine layer rushed inland?  :P  We may have a carbon copy later this week as another storm [w/ near hurricane winds] slams into Washington/Oregon.

In fact, the N. Pacific is quite active which means more clouds/cool but probably dry for SoCal  :(

Yeager doesn't have the best track record [over-estimates rain. however I think he is correct with this forecast  :o goodbye summer a month early

You didn't answer the "ee" question.  "Ee" is pronounced like a long "a" sound or "eh" in English, zum Beispiel: "schnee".

Steve

p.s. "palm".  There, I said "palm".
