I bought some seedlings and have heard they don’t like their roots disturbed so would I be better off to plant them directly in the ground or put them in pots? Also any other suggestions for growing them in hell!!

Don, If concerned I would treat these like other palms that don’t like their roots disturbed such as Bismarckia’s.  Just make sure the pots used are a bit oversized. There’s a ton of growers that grow Decipiens in pots with little issues to the end customer.

I personally am not growing Decipiens so I’ll leave that input to those that are, but as similar to other palms, I wait until the plant is a good sized 2G or so to plant out. I may be too conservative in that respect tho.

Interested to hear others opinions. Love the look of Decipiens at all stages. Good luck

Good advice from Dale on size to plant.  If you have tiny seedlings the risk of frying them or drying them in the heat will be much greater.  Your best advice for size to plant this palm in your neighborhood will come from fellow residents  of the Phoenix area.

I am the king of zone pushing I’m sure no one is growing these in Phoenix and it may turn out that I don’t either but I love the look so I will give it a shot!!

Plant it in a wicker basket that you can drop in the ground 3 years from now.
