Well I have what I thought was a hapala, purchased as hapala but was just recently told it was a Koghiensis due to it triangular base. Now I have doubt that my Dumasii is one.  It too also looks very similar to Koghiensis.  I may have 3 Koghiensis now. How can you tell the difference.  All of them are at a young stage, so may have to wait. I was told hapala has a round base and not sure on dumasii.

At first glace it does look like a Koghiensis but they are similar looking overall. I’ll try to take a look at my Kogs and Dumasii later to see if I can compare. Off hand the one thing that I can tell about mine is that the Dumasii does a little bit better with direct afternoon sun (I still have to throw up a shade cloth over the Kog for 3-4 months of the year) despite it being older than my Dumasii.

Are the emerging leaves showing color?  Burretiokentia hapala does not in my experience, while both Burretiokentia koghiensis and dumasii will have pink to red new leaves (dumasii having the more red).  Just looking at the base of the one in your photo, it does look more like my Burretiokentia koghiensis.   For what it is worth, the B koghiensis looks like a smaller palm grown here in California than any of my Burretiokentia hapala and slower as well.

Thanks Robert, it did burn when it gets a little sun. But the smaller one that is supposed to be Dumasii is alot more sun and smaller and it doesn't burn at all.  I'll get a picture of that one tomorrow. It's too small to tell I think

It does throw and pinkish leaf so it must be a Koghiensis,  but now don't know about dumasii.  Curious as to the base on Dumasii is triangular? Thanks Tracy
