Humidity is up, clouds are in, 77F(57%RH) at 7am, high of 94F expected for the next few days, lowering to 90F by the end of the week.  When the humidity drops, the overnight lows will plunge back into the 60's and the highs will be in the high 80's.  Its really fantastic growing weather for my palms, spears are pushing out all over.

Finally got some decent rain. It has been raining for the last hour and a half this evening, sometimes rather hard. My coconut better get in some last minute growing before winter sets in and slows at way down to almost a halt.

Bit chilly. Seen frost on roofs already. Of course no frost on the grond or anything. Temps have been in the 60's low 70's in the day and 40's at night. Few nights ago we hit 40F. Napa up north plowed down to 36F I believe.

Me want rain.

Yea, the microclimates are crazy. Tonight its not so bad, probaly get to upper 40's. The roof's like frost down here for reasons unknown. No real frost, just a little white on some roof's. Brings back memories...

Im on a hill, so in some cases, I can be up to 10F warmer on the hill than down in the valley of my town where the cold air flows on in. I wouldnt hesitate to say that downtown orinda is a 9A.

Above average temps for the start of October. There's storms predicted for this weekend and early next week, cross my fingers in hope for a nice drop of sky juice. The heat/rain predicted of course is ideal for the palms, let's see what happens, we've been unlucky here though whilst the north and south coast get drenched.

It's taking its time to warm up over here. Consistently low 20's, so the atmosphere is quite stable and humidity is staying moderate. There is no yoyoing of temp or humidity yet. That should happen by about the third week of October when summer gets here.

Nice temps here.  It's been in the low 80's F.  The humidity has been low.  I haven't gotten rain at my place in weeks.  The drought continues to worsen.  Total outdoor watering ban is not fun.  We've been using the water left in the tub after my kids baths to water our favorite outdoor plants.  We've got two very clean little girls!

Pretty nice outside today. Temps hitting low 70's throughout the bay. Windy. Friday night its suppose to get quite cold here. In some sheltered valley's it may get near freezing. Most of the bay should be in the lower 40's though. Not looking foward to this mini frost we may have.

Still have not had the first cool front of the fall.  Still in summer mode here.  Temps in the Low 90s, Lows in the low 70s/upper 60s.  So far this "fall" we haven't dropped below 67F at night.  I can't believe some are experiencing 40s already.  First "cool" front will probably come sometime the middle or last half of Oct, dropping lows into the 50s

This is the first time I can remember not having a Santa Ana come through by end of September or early October. There isn't one in the 10-day forecast either. I would love nothing more than to experience a Fall without one. Last year, the entire month of November was a "Satan Ana".

By tomorrow morning an offshore wind will kick in though not as strong as most santa ana's.  Because of the current cold air mass overhead, the winds will not raise temps too much [maybe just 80's] & night temps will be chilly in wind-sheltered areas [perhaps below 50F  :o  Santa ana conditions will become more prevalent as we get further into autumn.

What's left of the storm is quickly diminishing w/o any rainfall being recorded in SoCal.  Today is cold by October standards [barely 70F] but plenty of sunshine for the next week  :D

This has been a wet start to Oct. Many showers and storms, frequent each day, about 3" total since the 1st and nights near 80F, very humid afternoons near 90F. Unusual that it has been wetter the past few weeks than all summer and still warm. Our Gulf is still at 84F so winds coming off are warm winds. It has been very nice not having to water lately. Sept was rather wet, too, which was nice! Maybe this will be a moist fall. Fall here is usually dry, sunny, warm with cooler nights and sunny days but little rain! I put this in the Florida wet season thread but I guess it probably belongs in this one:

5.84"/148.3mm in the first 6 days of october. I think is that just about as much as we got here in the whole month of July, supposedly one of the wetter months. Better late than never I guess. This week is just about the last bit of summer time wet season in the forcast though. Looks like the first real cold front will be coming through for this coming weekend. It may bring a quick line of thunderstorms in its wake though which will help the drought a little. Still always a chance for a tropical system to brew up in the carribean and get pulled up this way by an early season cold front and bring lots of rain and wind on into November and even early December.

We didn't get the showers. Oh well. But we did get high winds, and they're continuing as I type this.

It didn't keep me from working out there though. Temps in the upper 70's made real pleasant working conditions.

So I rearranged all potted plants to suit the wind flow. removed the pavers from an area that I want to make into another planter area with a path winding through it. Then I started digging only to find LARGE roots from an old tree that I have to figure out how to remove now.

Matts planting, Kris' maintenance posts, and Paul's tour have me inspired to work. :D

It's warming up here now, with a fair bit of rain. We've had a good 20mm of rain in the last day from a subtropical cut-off low that has given everything a good drenching. I just put out all the horse manure, dynamic lifter and Nitrophoska perfekt before it started and the rain has washed it all in. Palms are opening leaves and soaking it all up. We had a couple of 25C days before the rain came and while it's cooled down during the day, the nights have been warm. Saturday is forecast to be 31C, with a humid 25C change on Sunday. I'm looking forward to hopefully a humid summer.

Well, the dry season is here. The first cold front of the season is due Fri with highs in the mid 80's and lows mid 60's, lower humidity. That signals the end. While it hit 91F again yesterday, no rain and none in sight. Once that cold front plows thru, that's it! Oct is usually dry and warm and sunny. There is always the hope of a weak tropstorm, but that is just hoping LOL...the prediction is a warm and dry winter for the SE USA, whic h while bodes nice for FL, means continued water shortages! Very warm and wet here in Palm Beach County.  Much wetter than normal for October I think.  And the wind has been blowing for 10 days.  My husband hasn't run a scuba charter in 10 days because of bad visibility from the wind.

I was over in Sarasota for the weekend and it rained a lot on Thursday night, off and on on Friday and Saturday, and poured on Sunday afternoon.  Very windy over there as well.

Today it is expected to be 88 for a high.  But I am seeing our winter birds arriving.

We did see two days of cool weather, perhaps a result of the socal santa ana effect.  Our lows were 51, 52 with highs in the low 80's.  Seems like were back on track now with 89-93 highs and 61-65 lows for the last two days in the general phoenix area.

Yes....almost no doubt of that Greg.  78.4F here at 10PM, but with a dewpoint of only 61F.  That dewpoint and temperature at this time all but assures a low temp of less than 70F by morning.

The dry season here this year has been quite wet for the most part.  We have been getting some rain most every day and it normally does not go more than 3 days with no rain.  The temperatures have also been lower.  Last year which was more normal the September and October temperatures normally hit from 38C to 40 C every day.   This year they tend to be at the most 32 C or 87 F.  Since we have La Niña impacting our weather this is probably the reason.  It has been drier than normal in much of Brazil this year for the same reason.  I think our rainy season is already starting to kick in.  This normally happens in November.

Here is what it was like yesterday at 4 PM 32 C / 87 F.  There was rain in some parts of the city but where I was at by the meeting of the waters of the Negro and Amazon Rivers it was dry.  The ocean going vessels off to the right are waiting to go into port to off load.

Happ,

I would imagine that where I took the picture from is around 250 ft above sea level.  It is still a long way from the ocean, about 1,200 miles or so.  If you take that into account you can visualize how little drop there is in the basin.  By the way just beyond the point where I took the picture is a high piece of ground that has a big microwave antanae on it.  At this spot was found an indian graveyard.

Here is a picture from about the same spot looking straight at the Meeting of the Waters.  The muddy water is the Solimões River (the Amazon in places other than Brazil).  At the point it meets the Negro it becomes the Amazon River.  It takes up to 40 kms for the waters to completely mix.  The main channel of the river at this point is about 300 feet deep.
