I saw this on youtube earlier and I thought it was cool and thought I'd share, It's not often people make time lapse of palm trees, I'll come back to this forum in a year from now and post the 2nd part 😂

I love it! thanks for sharing this awesome vid.

I've recently acquired a Medjool/Dactylifera sapling and your video helped me identify how old mine is. It's about 6 months old based on your timelapse.

What kind of setup do you have? Did you take a pic everyday and just combined them into a video?

Oh it’s not my video, I’m just sharing it from YouTube. I do agree it does help to know when you can expect what stage of growth palm is from the video!

We had Medjool dates at Christmas 3 years ago. I got a pit to grow. It's about 18-20" tall today

I didn’t really realize how moderately paced these trees are, I thought they would be more vigorous, looks great!

I should sprout mine 🥰

They don't grow fast - at least early on. I do put mine out in the spring and bring indoors in the fall.

Amazing videos. I watched year 1 and 1.5 but year 2 and 3 brought some crazy growth. Could be that it got a bit etiolated from lack of direct sun but it still got huge for an indoor palm. My 2 year old dates are not close to that height yet 😂

Phoenix dactylifera has very aggressive roots and will grow like no other if given a parcel of sandy earth to grow in and plenty of overhead sunshine. I've got about 20 of them germinated in 2020, some are in 20 to 30 gallon containers, some still in grow bags, in Phoenix, Az.  all from supermarket medjools. Hopefully we will have a male tree in the mix or else I'll have to buy one from one of the growers in Imperial Valley.  I read that male trees are only 1 in 100, but a single male tree will pollinate a whole grove of females.  Interesting palms for sure.

Male trees are planted 1 in 100 as they don't produce fruit, but can pollinate many female trees. As far as I know, seedlings have a 50/50 chance to become male or female.
