I have to laugh at those that say, "These aren't native. Grow something else." 90% of garden centers offerings are non native plants, and I've never heard of people complaining about Fatsia, Laurel hedging, Araucaria etc. When you get right down to it, my guess is they themselves, have ancestry than proves they're not native. All part of the narrow minded thinking that exists.

We hear that down my way at times, from folks whose yards are full of Crape Myrtle and Camellias.

The equivalent to a Crepe Myrtle here in Illinois is a Magnolia or a cherry, since it is not warm enough.

Its not so much that Crepe Myrtles are overly common, but in houston there pesky, invasive, and FAST

I thought it was how beautiful they are, I sort of did not take the social cues from some other posts.

It's fine haha, I have half a mind to cut down all my crepe myrtles because they have medeiocre colors and always need to be trimmed, but my family likes them so they stay

I got around one magnolia and one cherry but there are like 30 or lower magnolia trees around the area where I live. No crepe myrtles. I also have a natural growing hibiscus beside the shed. Comes back every year with beautiful flowers.

That's a beautiful windmill. May it thrive and grow for years to come.
