I am thinking about planting a couple of palms close to and at an angle away from each other so I can hang a hammock between them. Will queens do the trick? I am planning on buying two trunking palms and let them root in and make the turn before I hang my shakin bacon in them.

Has anyone done this? what do you think? How long till they are rooted enough to support me and the wife    :;): any pics?

If I could find a couple trunking mules for sale that is what I would use.

The queens will do the trick because they are uber fast.  I'm pretty sure 9 out of 10 palmers have thought about this idea.  The Brazillian style hammock is awesome.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I was temped to try kings, but I would hate for them to make the turn and look great, only to be killed by the next big freeze. As well I get windy every day at my house and I heard king don't like wind.

Queens (palms) will work, since they're fast and tough.  I don't think a king would work as well, since it's all spongy inside.  Speaking for myself (I weigh 250) the tougher the better.

That said, I'd get me a pair of mules, too.  Why?

Queens are hardy, but mules are even hardier, which I think will be a concern in Temecula, especially if you're down off the mountains where it can get cold.  (I interviewed for a job at a nursery there back in the 1980s, and the guy who ran it told me he'd seen 8 F (not C) a couple of times, though not often, thank heaven.

Does anyone have larger size mules for sale that are allready trunking or close to it? That is defintely the way I would go If I could find a couple.

One of the advantages I have is being on the top of a hill so I don't get as cold as the surrounding areas, so queens will make it, I'd just rather not plant any more.

Dave ,

There are probably people who have mules that size for sale.

But I'm sure they would be very expense,as a small 3 gallon here in Florida usually sells for around $150.00 !
