Looking for suggestions for storing larger Palms in Winter

For the last two years, I have stored my Foxtail in my heated Garage next to a south facing window. This palm is already all the way at the ceiling (10 feet). I am sure that with the new growth this year it won’t fit in there anymore. I was wondering how others deal with larger specimen Palms that don’t fit upright into the House or garage anymore.
can you lay them sideways?
I did look at places to store it but find that the closest place charges quite a lot to store this palm and not knowing if it would survive there
I was contemplating planting it and building a multiwall cold frame around it and giving it supplemental heat. But what are the chances for that to eork in zone 6b?!

Just looking to see how others have dealt with these issues.

thanks

B

I have a foxtail just like yours. Every winter it goes to my dads house. He has 14 foot ceilings with floor to ceiling windows. All my other palms stay with me. So yeah see if you ca. swindle a friend or relative. Also I made a custom light stand for the palm as well

Finding someone that I could take it to that has tall enough ceilings and agrees to take care of it in the winter would be the best case scenario. I was just trying to see what other options there are in case that option is not available.

You can lean it or lay it down is my only suggestion.  You'd have to figure a way to water it.  I don't think I'd try to plant it.

You might see if there is a botanic garden nearby and maybe donate it. Laying it on its side or leaning it is probably not a good option especially when it needs watering, major PIA. Foxtails are big, robust palms that don’t make good, long term, container specimens.

But hey, you like what you like and are willing to do whatever it takes to keep your palm alive, trust me I’ve been there.

Vaulted ceilings

Yeah, I am actually wanting to do that at some point. I talked to a contractor about that a year ago and with our house it would require a full roof remodel with a Pitch increase and would run $50k $100k. I will have to wait until the rates come back down before we think about renovating the house, which needs new kitchen, and master bath.

On another note. My neighbor has a very tall garage (14ft) and would allow me to store it there at least next winter. So it looks like i get to enjoy my foxtail for a bit longer.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
