I used to be a inveterate beer drinker but getting older I enjoy spirits. My favorite is Barrolito ꙳꙳꙳

Favourite Rum ?.... dear oh dear.... it is truely wicked stuff !
Australia has a history re imbibition of  'sugarcane champagne' dating back the First Fleet in 1788.  In fact, there was a distinct lack of coinage in the early days of the Penal Settlement at Port Jackson, and Rum quickly became the currency for all business transactions.  Also Australia's only coup d'état happened when Governor Bligh ( he of the Bounty fame ) was overthrown by the NSW Rum Corps during the so called Rum Rebellion of 1808 ( The NSW Corps held the monopoly trade in Rum,  Governor Bligh attempted to introduce coinage to break the trade and commerce in Rum )
So Australia and Australians have a checkered history in the imbibition of the Devil's drink.
( on a personal note, the stuff has given me hangovers that last 2 to 3 days, so I avoid it like the plague... lol.
The National  'rum of choice' in Australia is a particularly horrible product called Bundaberg ( or Bundy ) Rum,  concocted in Bundaberg, Queensland.
This song pretty well sums up the horrible stuff...lol

The Lyrics

They thought they'd be -
The kingdom by the sea.
The Jewel, in Australia's crown.
They used to think -
They'd made the drink -
That would turn,
The whole world upside down.

One sip.
And the whole world would come.
For one sip.
Of Bundaberg Rum.

They distilled the sugar.
Into pure molasses.
They raised their glasses
High above their heads.

They took one sip -
They took one sip.
And someone said:

Holy shit, this is liquid crack,
What the f.. are you lookin' at?
Come over here and I will beat you like a drum.
And I'll introduce your face to my hand.
And we'll settle this whole thing man to man.
Bartender, two more cans of Bundaberg Rum.

Cause its canned hate,
Liquid Venom.
Makes you mean as a snake.
Makes you wanna punch women.
It's purified sugar from a high pressure cooker.
Makes your skin start crawling,
'Til they peel you from the roof.

Its caustic soda,
Mixed with cola.
Makes your eyes grow beady,
Makes you go bipolar
Makes you watch sport channels,
Wanna wear flannel.
Makes you wanna call the bouncer a big fat poof,
Join One Nation, or Family First.
But he hates mankind.
Cause hes blind drunk, and dumb on Bundaberg Rum.

Bundaberg Rum.

Wine is for purists,
Whiskey's for snobs,
Foster's is for tourists,
But Bundy is specifically targeted for yobs.

Cause its canned hate,
Liquid Venom,
Its semen from a demon,
With just a twist of lemon.
Makes you angry to your boots,
Makes you wanna drive a ute,
Makes you wanna take the cops on a high speed pursuit.
It'll make you pissed,
Make you make lists
Till you talk talk talk talkin with your fists,
And your saying something racist,
Tasteless.
No point of view, or informative basis.

There's somethin'
In the fermentation
Makes a man grow a mullet,
Join One Nation.
Or Family First
When he hates mankind.
He's blind drunk, and dumb on Bundaberg Rum.

Bundaberg Rum.

Bundaberg Rum.

I mostly drink whiskey in the way of Jack Daniels, however I do like a good rum too. My go to one is usually Captain Morgan's spiced gold, although I do like Kraken as well. Either one of those two will suffice for me. Captain Morgan's is only 35% volume though, so I won't get excessively drunk on it, unlike Kraken, which is 40%.

I am supposed to be cutting back on the booze though, since I binge drink far too much. Like I won't touch alcohol for a whole week, or two, but then I'll drink a whole bottle of rum in one night before going another 7-14 days without touching alcohol again. I don't remember anything beyond 10pm on New Years but apparently I had to be separated from the usual guy I scuffle with outside my local. I think I drank about 10 doubles that night, plus a load of shots and beer. The problem I have is that once I start, I cannot stop. I'm not addicted or anything though as I go a week or two without touching any alcohol. I do have a problem with self control though when I do start drinking it however. I'm probably not the only person on here like that haha. :floor:

Malibu.. the only thing i'd drink, when i drank.. That or top shelf Vodka  ..Stuff like Kettle One for example.  or shots of the T.. 1800 Silver or Patron ( Silver ) only..  No Beer <disgusting, even the non-alchy stuff>  red, brown, gold-colored liquor, or red wine.

While i might not turn down a drink with a splash or two of Coconut Rum or Vodka in it to toast an extremely special occasion.. 11 years after transcending beyond " what everyone else might choose to do " when they are enjoying an evening out, and shedding off a very negative habit .. couldn't be prouder for choosing the bolder path.  I may have disappointed a few, but,  as long as i never disappoint myself,  that is all that counts.

Nice to see more people now are leaving the "Liver killer" behind..  Do want to try some of the good, non - alcoholic Malibu / Vodka / Tequila alternatives  at some point..

I'm not huge a rum drinker but I do like it when I'm in the mood. Kraken, Captain Morgan and black heart are good  ... I'm  more of a bourbon and coke drinker. I do like Early Times, it has a  nice smooth  caramel flavour. I  pretty much go through a 1 liter bottle of it every week. on top off all the beers. The odd Gout flare ups ruin the fun of it all, sometimes haha.

We used to mix Cruzan in Slurpees when I lived in Florida. Banana Slurpees with banana rum were great in the summer.

While not really a fan of drinking for the sake of drinking, I would say when I the situation arises - I have a soft spot for this Guatemalan rum which I’ve not seen stateside:

When I used to partake in the consumption of alcohol, my favourite drop was Inner Circle Rum (Green Dot - Navy Strength). The Black Dot was much stronger in alcohol content but I preferred the flavour of Green Dot.
