I planted it last year in late may, idk if will survive I feel like this winter is gonna be a rough one

Fir the first winter you could always cover it with a 5 gallon bucket. Those dried leave will help as well.

Yea under 10F put a pile of leaves and a tarp supported by a stick or a bucket.  otherwise don't worry.  If that damages it then it wasn't meant to be.

Isn't S.louisiana just S.minor grown in a swamp? In a dry spot it may never trunk.

@SeanK well from Ik it is listed as a sabal minor but it’s less hardy than and gets bigger than regular minor and semi quick growing
