Hello Together

I am new here in the forum. I am from Switzerland and have many hardy palms.now I want to try my luck with the coconut palm. I would like to buy a nut in the supermarket, and bring this to germinate. In Switzerland, keeping the coconut palm is quite difficult. Do you have any tips? Show me your. coconut palms?

Thanks a lot

Here's mine, it's an orange panama tall. This palm has no winter damage even though we've been between 5C and 10C all week. No protection of any kind too.

To sprout a coconut I just recommend putting it in a closed place and making sure it has high humidity and temps between 14⁰C and 25⁰C

@Rickybobby grows a lot of stuff in Canada.  He has a pretty nice setup and can give you insight about growing tropical palms in a 4 seasons temperate climate.

This is not a problem. I have a boiler room, which has about 25 - 30 degrees... I can control the temperature there well

Thanks for the tip. let's see if he gets back to me, otherwise I'll look for his posts.

You mean the minimums were between 5-10? We have 26C here today and we are in Europe.

Hahaha

Well, one more proof that some cocos can withstand lower Ts.

But in any case Monterrey is not South Europe. I mean ok they will get occasional cold snaps but they are nowhere near to the duration of the winter Ts in the Med.  Sea

I tried germinating from four local store bought coconuts last January , but I only recently managed to get one to successfully sprout:

It was in a pile of sprouted coconuts in Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo. I took it because it was the one with the brightest color.
