Self watering system in a greenhouse

Has anyone tried that? I am considering a DIY drip self-watering system for a couple of pots. I am thinking of a simple devide using a cord of some sort. I have seen many videos where people share successful stories but their plants are normally outdoors, or indoors but not inside a greenhouse. Mine will be inside a mini, tabletop greenhouse so evaporation will be much slower and humidity very high. Will a dripping system keep soil too wet and lead to root rot?

Please share your experience if anyone has tried something similar.

I don't have any greenhouse experience but I do know you can get pretty surgical with a drip system. You can control the time down to the minute and use anything from a .5 gph to a 3 or 4 gph emitter. You can get hose bib controllers fairly inexpensively that can turn on and off multiple times per day. You can also get tube emitter rings that will water very evenly in a larger pot where even watering might be a concern. The palms I have on drippers in pots and in the ground seem to do better than the ones I hand water, it seems that way at least.

When I was an Agricultural Science teacher, I had a vertigro system. Stacked pots that were fed on a timer, also pulled nutrients from buckets. This is cause I used cocoa fiber and pine bark mix as medium. This retains no nutrients but prevent fungal/disease/bacteria. I grew a lot of spinach, strawberries and black seed lettuce.

you can do a less commercial set-up than what I had.

Τhe issue with those is that often minerals or whatever it is clog the pipes and emitters. That's why I would rather make a DIY system with a simple cord in a bucket of water

I haven't had much of a problem with clogged or even broken emitters and the tube has been trouble free. I guess it would depend on your water quality though. You could always use a filter if it did become a problem I suppose. Sorry, I’m not familiar with any cord and bucket drip system. Good luck.

Thank you! I am not sure about the water here either. Anyway I will give it a go and keep you updated.
