Hi all. I know an exact replica of Areca triandra for cold weather does not exist but does anyone know a plant that gives similar effect. The closest one I found was Chamaedorea seifrizii.  Thank you very much for any advise!

C. microspadix would be the next hardiest Cham.  species that would provide the " feel " of an Areca.  There are several other taller Chamaedorea sp. but whether or not you could grow them will depend on what kind of cold you see where you are located.

Thanks for letting me know about the Chamaedorea Microspadix guys. Im very disappointed to find nowhere in Australia seems to producing/selling them!  https://www.palmnursery.com.au/?rf=kw&kw=Chamaedorea  I think the bamboo palm may be the closest we can get in Australia

You might try and reach out to any of the Australian Palm Talk members ( many ).   I'd assume someone there may be growing it and might be able to offer seed, i'd hope so anyway.  Very easy to germinate.  Same with other " relatively "  cold hardy Chamaedorea  species you might be able to grow where you're located.  If in a part of Aus. that sees winter lows similar to California ( Central and Southern Calif.  ) you should be able to cultivate the same sp.  there -if available.

Welcome to the form btw.

You could try Floribunda Palms and Exotics in Hawaii. They ship with phyto certificates but the minimum order for foreign sales is U.S. $400.00 so you may need to share an order with some other palm people in Australia that you know. I have always been happy with their palms.
