I’ve posted this on other topics . Got this from @DoomsDaveas jubaea butia hybrid in a 15 gallon . Good looking plant any others around? I’m pretty sure this is butia x jubaea . Jubaea with some serious recurve from what it looks like to me .

Here are 2 bxj recently for sale in Texas.
I seriously had a hard time telling bxj from just butia. But now, I see the hooks on the ends of the newest fronds on the hybrids with Jubaea in the mix.

After they have been in the ground a couple years and start putting on some size they are much fatter than standard butia . Atleast the one I planted . Mine looked pretty Much just like the ones in the pictures Above

$2,000 for that palm is an absolute joke, even if it is a rarity. Surely not worth more than $400 at most, so it is marked up 5 fold. It isn't very big at all and it isn't exactly in pristine condition. That may actually be the most overpriced palm I have ever seen. Just crazy.

Guess it depends on how bad you have to have it .

Yeah I have a buddy who paid close to $100,000 buying a large yard full of palms from them.

I'd agree maybe 2 years ago, but Considering the palms had to travel 2000 miles from California when travel prices were at their highest and it is a real business paying high taxes. It is probably not over priced for the business to make money in Austin. TX.  They had been there since spring when they were noticeably more healthy when they were shipped in.

They are bigger than they appear, that is a 3 foot wide box, and they are about 2 feet wide at the base, Those are big heavy palms. No way I could plant them without two other people minimum.

I just paid $40 for a couple babies. It will take me probably 7 years to get to that size. SO Calculate what a year in your life is worth times 7, plus water, plus fertilizer. both at premium prices now etc...

Often they ship Jubaea's straight from Chile to the US and Europe, so it shouldn't inflate the price 4-5 fold. I couldn't imagine spending $2,000 on something that has what...  2 foot of trunk at most. Even if it is a hybrid. The most I would spend on a hybrid that size would be about $500. I suppose if you are rich enough, the cost is somewhat irrelevant and doesn't matter.

I bet it looks good though . Also probably pretty basic ?

It looks good. Lots of large Phoenix Dactylifera, Archontophoenix, Butea, Jubea, Howea, etc. it looks like a resort. But because all of the King palms were planted with several feet of trunk, I have 5 gallon Archontophoenix that have passed his by in terms of size.

Normally I prefer to plant 5 and 15 gallon stuff. Especially fast growing palms like Kings. But I’m moving into my new place in 10 days so I am picking up 20-25 gallon palms to set my canopy so I can plant my smaller stuff in spring with some protection.

Going to dig and pot up some of your "gems" I imagine ?

If so that would be an interesting thread to start....

I tried and killed a Tuckeri which made me stop. I am digging up my Cocos Nucifera because if I leave it will be dead by January so if it dies transplanting I at least tried.
