Hi all...1st post.

I have(had) a beautiful travellers palm growing center stage in my backyard in southwest Florida. That is until Ian decided to hit it with 100mph+ winds. Most of my other palms took some small damage, but the travellers got really beat up bad. So many of the fronds were broken and needed to be cut off. It killed me to do it, but necessary.  I have heard that you are never supposed to cut off the center fronds...but I had no choice...is this plant a goner or will it come back?  Very sad about this...it was a really beautiful specimen.  Any help is appreciated.

Should I cut the stalks down to the ground??

It will grow through, just like a banana or heliconia.

If it has any pups, you can remove the main trunk. Even without existing pups, cutting the existing trunk at ground level would still result in it pupping.

I prefer to call them Traveler Trees, since they aren't really palms.

I spent quite a bit time today and cut the plant pretty far down...just a bunch of big stumps...hopefully in time it will come back.

If you cut it down to the stump there is a chance you destroyed the growing point. If you had left them as they were in the first photo they would have been back to normal quickly
