Sabal palm tree seeds viability time

Featured Replies

Hello,

I had bought some sabal texensis palm seeds in 2021 and my parcel was returned to it's sender in the usa by mistake by m'y local Belgien post.

Now the parcel was shipped back to me this end of september 2022 and my question is:" Howlong are sabal palm tee seeds viable after having been collected from the mother tree???

Aspecially all kinds of sabal species besides sabal hybrid texensis, knowing they've been store in a dry cardboard box.

Thanks.

They stay viable for years, Don't worry about viability.

Assuming that the seeds were somewhat fresh when shipped the first time you should be OK.  I can't say how many years they remain viable but I do know that Sabal mexicana (formally called texana) seeds collected from previous year's crop have no problem germinating after sitting on the ground for 10 months.  I recently had a Sabal maritima seed germinate at least 3 years after planting!

You just blessed my day, thanks.

I had read Somewhere: " viable only for 2 years only".

Do Washingtonias also have long term viability ?

Thanks

Yes, the desert palm seeds like Washingtonia, Brahea and some Phoenix tend to have much longer viability.
