Borassus Aethiopum seedling question

Hello, these germinated around June, and one for sure has sprouted.  The tip has surfaced, but it looks a little dry, and I’ve been giving a light watering, once every few days.

I don’t want to overwater, but I don’t want to have it dry out, either.  Any thoughts?  I amended the soil, so it drains pretty freely, in the immediate area.

I'd guess the tip looks bad because it has been trying to stab itself!  I have no other useful info on growing one in CA, other than they seem to grow okay in swampy Florida.  If it is freely draining soil it can probably tolerate a reasonable amount of water.

Don’t worry about that getting brown at the tip. The leaf is still way down inside and will take quite a while to bust up through that sheath. See pic.
