Washingtonia in North Carolina

I was in Wrightsville Beach, NC this weekend and I spotted this Washingtonia, which I suspect is filifera because of the trunk size and lack of purple/burgundy on the trunk. Based on Google Streetview, this palm was planted sometime prior to 2008 and survived the 2018 100 year cold event. I've attached the weather observations for Wilmington, which is the closest I could find. Although Wrightsville is probably a tad warmer than Wilmington, but I imagine the temps and conditions were very similar. What a tank of a palm. I'm in Raleigh and recently planted two Washy filibusta from Lowes, labeled "Robusta" but I've been told they're too hairy to be pure robusta. I also planted a small filifera. Raleigh is obviously not Wrightsville Beach but I'm hoping with the right micro-climate, I can keep these guys alive for a while.

That week of Jan 2018 was awful here in Wilmington.

The lows of 0 on the 9th and 12th are not correct in the above data.  I believe the lows after the 8th were all well above freezing for a while.

Wrightsville Beach should expected to be ~5 degrees or more warmer than what was observed at the airport (the weather station data).  So likely ultimate lows probably dipped down into in the high teens for a couple of hours on the two very cold mornings that week.

There should also be a couple of other Washingtonian survivors around WB.  They all look very "fillabusta" hybrid to me.

Hey Nikfar   ,

I don't think those 0F Lows on the 9th and 12th are correct . When I came out of that 8 day below 32F  period here  it got relatively mild . I'll check my dates on the December 31st  through January  9th here .

December 31st the High was 31 and the Low was 21F

January 1st I had a High of 26F and a Low of 13F

January 2nd High 30F and Low of 9F

January 3rd High 30F  and a Low of 14F

January 4th  High 28F and Low 16F

January 5th High  29F and a Low of 10F

January 6th High 26F and a Low of 8F

January 7th High  28F and a Low of 7F

January 8th High of 43F and Low of  19F

January 9th High 63F and a Low of  40F

My Low was 55F on the 12th . Those 8 days from 12/31/2017  to 1/7/2018  were the worst of  the craziness thankfully .

Yeah, those 0 degree days looked questionable. I focussed more on the other days.

On a few historic-weather-websites I have observed 0's that don't seem to belong, I've always assumed a zero indicates zero data recorded or logged.

Jesse , I agree that there are a lot of 0's that don't make sense . I see 0's  on lots of times . I hate that because I want to know what really happened .
