What size pot to buy for Areca palm

Featured Replies

I recently bought an Areca palm that is in a 7 gallon pot from Home Depot (about 14 inches diameter by a foot tall- common size for a $40 plant). I am going to have this outside under a tree so I only want this to grow to about 8 feet. It is currently about 4 to 5 feet tall. What size pot should I buy? At Home Depot the sizes are in inches in diameter rather than gallons. Many range from 15 to 20 inches that I saw on the shelf. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, The Areca Palm will rarely get 10 feet in a pot. Palms stay small kept in small pot's that is a myth. The reason is because certain Palms kept in a smaller pot will eventually break the pot with it's massive root ball. However with yous that won't be the case, a 12 gallon pot will do....but it may get 10 feet.
