Sod was just installed near my two Phoenix Sylvestris and the irrigation sprinklers LIGHTLY clip the trunks, twice a day. However each is in an airy, sunny area and can dry out between waterings.

Will this rot them and kill them?

It's definitely a risk.  There's a 30' tall Pindo at a local nursery with 1/3 of the trunk missing on one side.  There's a rotating sprinkler head on a 5' tall stick right next to it.  It has been that way for at least 4 or 5 years, and the palm is still alive.  Eventually the spray will rot enough of the structure of the trunk that it'll die or fall, or both.  If it's just light sprinkle it might not be much different than your regular daily afternoon thunderstorm.  But if there's a way to adjust the sprinkler heads (rotation or position) to avoid getting hit, that would be better.  Maybe put in a "T" next to one of the heads, add dripline 25/30psi regulator, and put in a couple of small sprayer-fans-on-a-stick near the trunk facing away from the trunk?  That way you can get all the grass nearby without spraying the trunk directly.
