How far off a fence should a queen palm be planted?

Posted

Depends if there is anything on the other side of the fence you are trying to avoid as well with the leafs (fronds) once it matures. Queens trunk diameters can vary. I have mature ones with about 12” diameter trunks and others closer to 24” diameter trunks. You could probably get away with two feet off the fence if you are desperate for space, but I would recommend a minimum of three feet if possible. Note this: If you plant this close to the fence your palm is going to be dropping seeds and flowers all over the other side of the fence. Queens are messy and you may likely have an unhappy neighbor.

I got mine when I first got into palms. I’m planning on removing them soon.

What area are you in. Depending on that, there may be a number of better palm choices. Also, could you provide a photo of the area that you want to plant the palm?
