I purchased this at HD labeled “Wild Date Palm.” Any ideas?

I have grown CIDP Canary Island Date Palm from seed.  When they stay in my container ranch, they don't develop showing the large spines seen in your 2 photos.  If you look at Palmpedia, you can see photos with spines, BUT, look closely at the space between each individual leaf...much closer together than your photos.

I purchased this Phoenix theophrasti in 2011 from a Palmtalker.  Here is a photo of mine 10 years after planting it.  Spines are nearly the same (your palm is younger), but look at the space between each individual leaf....This would be my opinion.  Palmpedia claims this is good to 18 deg. F, but I can attest to no sunburn at 115 Deg. F.  I promise these spines are the gnarliest, but the tips of each leaf hurts as much.

@TheMadScientist I think that’s an accurate assumption. I was leaning toward Sylvester at first but the trunk looks different. Not a CIDP either.  Glad it’s in a sandy well draining spot.
