Butia odorata blue form and Trachycarpus takil

Went to a local Portland area nursery today, saw a lot of fun plants, both palms and desert plants (some were identified correctly lol)--  and of course, that sort of place is dangerous for me to visit (if I'm carrying any form of payment on my person).  So, yes, I bought 2 plants.  True T. takil I've been looking for,   the Butia I wasn't planning on-- until I saw it.  Definitely bluer than my own Pindo palm, and leaflets are stouter/wider I think, with the leaves also being more corkscrewed/twisted on the blue form.  First pic is T. takil , then odorata blue form, then takil again, then closer pic of the odorata blue form.   Finally a closeup of blue form leaf, followed by leaf closeup from my odorata in the yard for comparison.   Great plants!  Will follow with more pics of new palms I've gotten, including R. hystrix,  Sabal palmetto 'Lisa",  446003123_Trachycarpustakil.thumb.jpg.38ffb638f48dd92648c44f4e259200b7.jpg1423992818_Butiaodorata-blue3.thumb.jpg.bf1caf0f122d58a455444c62827d1ab1.jpgSabal mexicana, etc.

How much sun does your old Butia get?

I have 2 butia from presumably the same seed stock, one is shade grown, the other grown under 24 hour growlights.  They're both pretty small, maybe 2' tall.  But the shade grown one is lush green, while the 24-hour-grow-light specimen is quite glaucous.  They both looked the same when I got them last year, and I'm interested to see how they develop over time.

Mine in the ground ('normal form') is glaucous grey-green or blue-green, but nothing like the one I bought today.  It gets sun all day long, south facing exposure with no trees and near the wall of the house; it's at the edge of my desert garden.  So yeah, lots of sun & heat.  I could see them being more deep green if more shaded though.  The one I bought today just looks different,  wider leaflets, diff. growth shape,  and very bluish.  To me, it looks more different from my other odorata than does B. eriospatha (which despite being a diff. species, looks nearly identical to odorata in person, to me at least).  We'll see if these 'differences' are maintained (or magnified?) as it grows.

I can, but probably not for some days, I'm not at the property where that plant is staying currently.  Just dropped it off lol.

Good on ya!

I would have snatched the Butia up myself even with no where to plant it!

Blue butia from OneGreenWorld (portland); clara from Indian Rock Cycads & Palms (Calif).

@MarkbVet my big odorata had the exact same structure as the blue one when I first bought it. It wasn’t as blue as those ones though. The palms at one green world stood out from a distance even the ones in the shade. I think they were a great price for the condition, it even had me considering a 4th Butia. Palms were sourced from San Francisco.

Picture of my odorata from 5 years back.  My Eriospatha has much finer leaflets

The blue one's leaflets may be even a bit coarser/thicker, though that might be an optical illusion because the pale color really makes them 'pop'.   As you say, they really stand out,  even though the average B. odorata has some bluish tint too.   I had to get one lol.
