so it looks like their site is down and all the distributors of this fertilizer has none in stock.  i did message them on FB messenger (they do post regularly on their FB page) to see if they are no longer producing this fertilizer but still no reply.  so sad, i used this fertilizer religiously since its inception and did notice that the 50 lb bag was not as great as the 10 lb bags i used to order from Home Depot.  goodbye to a great fertilizer ... nothing fertilized my plants better than this besides nitrosol (aka greenganic; US name) but that distributor has long stopped importing to US for many years now.  just wanted to post as an FYI.

cheers

tin

so what is y'all going to use now?  just curious.

Wow I must have gotten one of the last bags left last month. I guess I’ll be going with one of the other companies on Amazon that have similar nutrient profiles. 8-2-12 or 12-4-12 seems to be what works best.

I looked on the site I usually buy from and it says, “discontinued by manufacturer”.
I guess that’s the end of Palmgain.

I also looked around for comparable stuff, and it’s very slim on the supply side right now.  I think there are shortages this year.

Osmocote (aka Florikan) i believe is a product from FL which is time released based on humidity and ambient temp.  when i first got into palms in 2009, I purchased a 50lb bag in california because it was a go to fertilizer for all florida growers.  little did i know at the time about the time released technology and because of the lack of humidity where i lived, it dissolved so slowly that 5 years on, i still had the little pellets still around my palms.  needless to say, it was useless for me to use but i can see how effective it is in areas with high humidity.  when i found palmgain, just smelling it as i opened the bag was a wow factor.  the stinkier the better in my opinion and i am now saddened by its discontinuation.  hopefully the company will revive the product at some point.  there are still sellers on amazon that have residual stock of palmgain but the cost margin is ridiculous.

Palm gain does not make their own prills, they are outsourced.  This means they don't have control over their supply as a company that makes their own.  That being said fertilizers have had supply chain issues.  I had to wait a week for the 2 bags of florikan I put down last week.  I just had the landscape supply company call me when it was in.  I was reading that supply chain issues will last into early next year due to the pandemic shutdown.  I would get it when you can and plan for one years worth.

There is a Sunday AM radio show here in San Antonio called "Gardening South Texas" with Dr. Jerry Parsons (of Texas A&M University and Texas Cooperative Extension fame).  When listeners call in and asked what they can do about so-and-so plant/tree that is not doing so hot, his typical go-to response is, "Give it copious amounts of Osmocote."

I have used Lesco products with good results for a while. Although I have not used this particular product. The link does not list the full details of this blend and so I would recommend looking it up on Lescos website to see if it meets your needs.

What a bummer. I'm happy I ordered a 50 pound bag a few months ago. Hopefully they get back in stock soon.

Does anyone make their own palm mixes?  There's a good fertilizer store in Houston that carries everything and anything that has to do with fertilizers, was wondering if I could mix up something on my own in bulk.

Question about palm fertilizer (I have Growstar 8-2-12)... Can I use it on non tropical plants in the same area (blue daze, sunshine ligustrum, loropetalum) or am I better off getting a different fertilizer?

"Order Received - March 6, 2022 at 8:11 AM" on Amazon. That order is still sitting there with no reply from BGI. I couldn't get it anywhere else at the time and now it makes sense - probably out of business. Sucks.

Do you believe what you are saying? :) Come on…I am sure that I will find again a 50 lbs bag in the autumn or winter.
All we need to do is be cool, the panic that results in hoarding the stores does not help at all.

Osmocote is not florikan, its a competitor that has less delivery consistency of nutrients over time as tested by U of Florida.  The the florikanCRF product has prills with different groups of nutrients and each nutrient group has a membrane sized appropriately for that set of nutrients.  So the pores are smaller for K, since its so readily soluble and washes away the fastest.  I also found osmocote to be more expensive, puzzling.

Did do my own do free shipping?  I can’t remember now.   If not, it’s about $20+ to ship any good 50lb bag of fertilizer to me.   They all seem to come out to $90-100 for me with shipping.     Might be about the same here.

I have ordered from them and they always were free shipping although I never ordered fertilizer.

wow, $95/bag for 50 lbs, that is a real eye opener.  I have noticed the Florikan CRF went from $65 to $72 at my local supplier.  It was pretty much stuck at 62-65 for 5 years.  I guess that may be permanent now and possibly it will increase more this year, very disappointing.   Shipping heavy packages costs a lot in this supply chain limited economy.  I priced turface MVP @ $16/50 lb bag and the shipping was more($30) than the cost of the material.  So $95 shipped seems about what you pay shipped.  Seems like we have a very volatile economy right now, not good.

I tried to get Florikan but the shipping was $65 to me, and no local pickup.  Came out to $150 per 50lb bag with tax.  So Palm gain is cheaper.  I also like Treesaver, which uses the UofFl formula, which is also around $90 to me here.

Len is right. Domyown.com was $65 with free shipping last year.

At the end of the day, would you rather have them discontinue the product or pay a huge premium on it now.

True. But 10lb bags are $27 now if you can find them so…

I ordered a 50lb as well but I’m not giving it too much hope. I’ve got a sneaky feeling I’ll be getting a refund in a month or so. Crossing fingers.
