I planted my first Adonidia Merrilli ten months ago and have read that the seeds turn red in fall/winter. It has produced large seed pods since being planted that stayed green all winter, however I noticed that it has a few red/orange seeds now (late Feb). Is this normal? I am not familiar with this palm yet and its cycle.

Very normal. The earliest inflorescences will develop red seeds in December. I believe that is where the name “Christmas Palm” came from. These are slightly later in developing but that could also be due to the fact that it was a recent planting. The seed is ripe when red and should fall readily. Unless you specifically want the seeds for planting, you can cut these off with a clean sharp knife or loppers. That should allow the energy to go into growth vs reproduction.

Yep, they are ripening!  I harvested about 100 from a palm in Key West back in December...only five have not germinated!!!

Well, Merry Freakin' X-Mas!

Around here, they are red any time of year.  If you trim off the inflorescences, they make a new one immediately.  People with lawn services with cut them off twice a year or so, randomly.
