The constellation Orion is in the evening sky during the winter season. Embedded in the sheath of Orion's sword is M42, the Orion nebula.

The following image of the nebula was taken with a 4.5 inch telescope at f/4 . Four exposures were made through clear, red , green and blue filters with a total exposure time of 17.5 minutes. Taken from Houston Texas.

Thanks for posting, Ed.   When I was a boy of 11 my grandfather and I would go deer hunting in northern California, at 41 degrees latitude in late September.  Arising each morning before dawn the belt of Orion was one of the few constellations I could recognize.
