Treatment and Recovery

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I wanted to start a post on the treatments and recoveries of everyone’s various palms that took a hit in December. I had 3 spear pulls, and know others did too. Who’s palms pulled? How was it/they treated (specifics)? and follow ups appreciated going forward. Myself had a Butiagrus, and 2 of Frank Lewis Super mules. TREATMENT: treated with 3% peroxide, allowed that to set in for an hour or two then wicked out the water with paper towel. Followed by copper fungicide, filled the open spear holes and let sit 2 hrs. Then again wicked out the moisture. Been repeating this every 2-3 days. Happy to report that the Butiagrus is already pushing new green spear. After only 2 weeks! Hard to see in pic but it’s there. But the supers nothing yet, and I see white mold in the holes after just 2 days between treating and that can’t be good.

I wish you the best.  No damage that I'm aware of down here.

Nice work @NWpalms@206

Glad I’ve managed to save at least one of my 3 pulls so far. And hope that maybe this info will help someone new like me from losing a palm. First time dealing with this, but when it’s palms you really liked, it’s a lame feeling When that spear pulls out.

Little update, lost another strap leaf withered to a crisp but the spear is pushing strong. Splitting into two now and was marked yesterday with noticeable growth.

I was really surprised how fast it came back. I think it spear pulled on like the 1st. Maybe I got lucky with good mule as far as genetically. It took some real cold, and young. What doesn’t kill it only makes it stronger hopefully helps with the climate acclimation.
