Cant go wrong with most Trachycarpus variants (except T. latisectus id avoid that unless 9a or higher zone). good luck and happy growing.

You can also try Sabal minor, or Sabal louisiana, and Trachycarpus fortunei.  Here is a pic of mine in NJ.

I concur with those recommending sabal minor (palmettos) and/or needle palms. They should be safe.  A trachycarpus fortunei (windmill palm) might need protection for a couple of years until it is established. I have seen them growing in 7A in Nashville, TN.

For those that do not know, Newark, NJ is hotter than he// in the Summer. Whatever my local temp is, Newark is hotter, and hotter that adjacent NYC...  They got a big heat island effect going on over there!

Now that I've heard about what palms to grow where can i buy them?

You can buy palms online, on Etsy, Amazon, or eBay.  Palms sold used to be bigger, and shipping costs MUCH cheaper.  You can always buy small liners/seedlings (one in the pic above was a seedling that I containerized, then planted in the ground).  Actually, tomorrow, I am spending that icy day transplanting 18 Japanese Windmills (Trachycarpus fortunei) that I started from seed in the summer.  Trachys are easy from seed, so are Washingtonia but I would not plant that in NJ (I don't protect, but you can see people who do who go to elaborate lengths in order to grow California fan palms, in the ground, in MONTREAL!).  Sabals are also good to experiment with, particularly Sabal minor, and louisiana (those are available online). I would suggest growing them to some size before planting, palms gain in cold tolerance as they gain thermal mass. Butia capitata is another very cold hardy palm, but they get really, really big and your spaces look small.  I bought this containerized Butia (one of two) as tiny seedling online, now they are big.

I'd throw a needle palm there next to that fence in the 2nd pic.   Or maybe a small variety of Sabal minor.  Is that a laurel of some kind?  Thought it was a Rhodo for a second.  I love any kind of broad leaf evergreen and think they're good companions for palms.   In the first pic I'd try something bigger like one of the bigger Sabal minors or Trachycarpus depending on your zone.   Actually looks like you're a 7a in Newark.  If you don't want to protect it I'd look at some of the sabal minor varieties.

Welcome to Palm Talk!!! Junglemusice.net @Phil can help you out if you want smaller seedlings shipped. They usually have the palms mentioned above in various sizes.

https://www.plantdelights.com/ is a good source for mail order palms.  They are in North Carolina.

I see reasonably priced larger palms at PlantVine.com from time-to-time.

A lot of commercial, online palm sellers charge an arm and a leg for very small palms.  And shipping will cost as much, if not more, than their products.  I buy as much as I can from ebay and etsy.  they're usually small plants (same for plantdelights), but you can find good deals, and you're directly supporting an individual who likes palms, rather than a somewhat larger company.  Some people say it's more risky to buy palms from ebay and etsy but I've never had a bad experience.

if you NEED larger palms, or hard-to-find, I'd probably shop junglemusic.  Great business run by a guy named Phil who will talk palms on the phone with you.  And his inventory is outstanding.  Just be aware you're going to pay for what you get.
