happ
Santa Monica bay to San Diego bay report water temps between 58F-63F\ 14-17C and why nobody but the hardiest swim in the ocean this time of year. An insight into the SoCal climate is the cold Japanese current that is weakly off-set by a warmer counter current. Ocean temps certainly retard beach side gardens of spring warmth & prolong winter's ill-effects on palms. happ
The warmer ocean of SoCal is, in part, the eddy pulling up water off the Mexico coast. It starts in San Diego & moves up the coastline. But once you get past Pt Concepcion, the cold Japanese current plunges the sea temp. I know, since I regularly swam in the frigid Pacific at Santa Cruz as a kid.
