The stream can be anywhere from 35 to 40 miles offshore here , depending on conditions. That is from Cape Canaveral, not Titusville. We are inland from the Atlantic about 15 miles, two barrier islands between us and the ocean.

I have no idea about the temp difference between Key West and Marathon. But what alot of people don't realize is that the keys don't really run north and south ,but east and west.

I forget all the time ,up here when you look at the Atlantic,  you are basically facing east,not so down there. There is very little difference in latitude between Marathon and Key West ,because the keys run east and west!

I have never seen Collinsworth of Astronaut High fame here in town.However knuckleballer Tim Wakefield from Melbourne is here quite often,in the off season. He has fished with me several times!

they say la niña is becoming more strong but these temperatures are normal for this month. may be it is not afecting this part of the east pacific in right now.

i like it more better for it show to you whats happenning in the ocean in time of few days. you can go to the beach in the morning put thermometer in the ocean have 60 F and walk 1/2 kilometer have 61 F.  do the same thing in the after noon and you can have 59 F and 62 F.

Hey Larry-

 I've run into the same quirk when comparing Key West temps to those in the upper Keys or here in South Florida, and what I've found is that data for Key Largo and Marathon in historical data (even data for the previous month) are actually taken at Homestead AFB. The real temps are much closer to those in Key West

yes in winter probaly the same, but in san francisco in the summer the waters stills 52 F !

in the foto you can see in southern california in area south of los angeles ocean currents come from south and bring more warmer water from baja california. this is normal currents.

Thanks for the charts, Cristóbal   and am also surprised by the readings in the upper Gulf of California since summer is over 20f warmer.  But shouldn't be surprised since even the Gulf of Mexico has similar cooling in winter.

Salton Sea average temperatures range from 55F. through Jan and Feb to around 90F in Aug.Salt level is 45ppt as compared to the Pacific at 35ppt.During cold events,the water temperature drops substantially below 55F.and this is witnessed by the distinctive smell of dead Tilapia,which expire at temperatures below 55F.

in the winter in the sea of cortez the winds blows from north. this pushing the water in the surface away from the land and bringing up water from the deep. for this reasons the waters cool in winter, in the north part. where i grow up in la paz in the south sea of cortez the waters always warm some times 25C / 77 F in winter.

same thing in california in summer the direction of winds of the high pressure in the east pacific bringing up cool water from the deep.

may be not best thing for swimming but very good for fishing and is what makes summer by the east pacific comftorable and dry. for me tijuanas climate is much better then la paz, warm and dry not hot and humid in summer and some times hurricanes.

i work in right now on a video of baja california and the plants here (we have 5 palms natives), i put this in the part of palm trips when i finish.

Cristobal, I just started watching closely this year but I don't recall it ever getting below 70F.This is not from someone who plots temperatures but from an Amateur.Iwill see if I can find any historical information.

There is a USF Marine station at Fowey Rocks (25°35'25" N 80°05'48" W), which is obviously not near Palm Beach (its near Miami), but the water temp is probably close enough.  There are 10 years of data in the below chart  and the temp is very rarely ever below 70F.  It looks like the lowest logged in this 10 year period was between 18-19C, or 64-66F.  The lowest average is about 23C, or 73F.

i go one time fishing in the florida keys in january (i have family in united states, south florida) - and i remember the waters very warm more warm then the air. i like florida very much only not in summer.

Cristobal,Summer is coming quick and unfortunately all we can hope for is a relatively cool May. This happens sometimes when we have a warm Winter.Ask your brother about our cool July evenings.

yes 85 F at 3 AM and raining in july. not very good for people, but very good for palms !

in the last night i read of the coral reefs in florida. only 2000 years ago when the waters more warmer the coral reefs grow more north to palm beach but now the waters more cooler and the coral reefs grows only in the florida keys. they say now with warming of the earth may be the coral reefs can grow more north but also if the ice melts a lot south florida can may be under the water in the future. but don´t worry bubba i don´t think this can happen soon.

Cristobal,The Coral reefs off Palm Beach and Northward have been here forever and certainly look no worse than I have ever seen.I talked to a Doctor friend,who dives alot all over the world,and he said our Coral reefs and those in the Bahamas are among the best he has ever seen.

Once again,atleast part of this relates geographically to the fact Palm Beach is the furthest Eastern point in the State.(actually Singer Island).Correspondingly,the Gulfstream is only 2 miles off shore.This keeps our water much warmer than probably Fowely Rocks.I have seen our water temperatures warmer than the Key's many times because of proximity to the Gulfstream.
