This area used to be tropical forest a long time ago.

Perhaps there are very different forms, but this does not resemble my specimen.  It looks like a geode to me.

I have petrified palm trunk from Louisiana, I purchased it at the springtime rock show in Tucson, Arizona.  Picture to follow later today.   :)

I used to find petrified palm “bark” behind my parents’ home in suburban Dallas. The area is rich in marine shell fossils, iron fallout from the Yucatán impact and all kinds of ammonites. I’ll find some and post pictures

Here is mine, since it was excavated in Louisiana I assume it to be a Sabal !

Perhaps the Texas specimen is actually a tree fern fossil.  Here is Tietea singularis from the Permian period, excavated from Goias, Brasil.

At the same show, I purchased a quartz point that is 12 inches across the flat facets, believe me the credit card was smoking !

The same vendor had a palm trunk with roots, it looked like the upside down tiki sculptures made from Washingtonia where the roots are the 'Rasta hair'.

I really wanted that one also, but my wife said "You're done" !  :floor:

Check out the previous image with my geode in the background, It looks like the outline of South America, including the sedimentary outflow from the Amazon.  I bought that one in Fallon, Nevada.
