That one looks very similar to my upright onilahensis I got from Ron Lawyer. If it is, I’m surprised it would burn in the sun. I will post a picture of mine tomorrow.

Wow, that does look much more like your upright onilahensis (on right) than its baronii "brothers" (on left).

Can't say for sure of course since the official label said "baronii" but I'm going to mentally tag it as a "NOID - but possibly an upright onilahensis". As a test, I'll probably retry it in sun later... but much more slowly... and after it has had a chance to recover. Thanks for the help!

….I thought it might be an upright Onilahensis... but the leaves "fried" quickly in my sun tolerance test.

Stacey, I don’t think it’s Onilahensis. I’ve got an upright variety I got as a small 1G with only a single stem 2yrs ago. I threw it in the ground about 6 months after getting it in blasting full sun facing West so it gets no protection in the hottest part of the day.. It now has 5 trunks and has never got any leaf burn at all. It’s actually been a pretty good grower for me.

if I was to guess, it would be a form of the Baronii complex like you stated. I’ve found Baronii can take some sun but not full sun, especially when young. Mine do best with some protection in the afternoon sun.

Sucks to be in Australia where these days getting new palms is nearly impossible due to 2 things !!

our over the top biosecurity laws Plus the lack of interest in foreign seed merchants willing to help us

I think I missed a couple small orders, but here's my latest...

floribunda.thumb.jpg.f8c3ec309c38a1a685e96d7e76cdc35a.jpg

I'm especially excited about the two hybrids...

  • Chrysalidocarpus (Dypsis) Prestonianus hybrid (1G)
  • Chrysalidocarpus (Dypsis) sp. "Jason Dunn" (4")

I also got another 1G of the Pinanga "Maroon Crownshaft" (far right) and a couple Hankona 4" (far left).

Most of the palms from my original 2021 order will either be in the ground (finally) or sold by Fall. I still have a lot of the slower growing palms in pots though. Let me know if you want a photo of anything in my collection to document growth speed... with disclaimer that this is for growth speed in semi-coastal California, outdoors in a pot.

It's been an amazing ride, and once again much gratitude to @Floribunda Palms and the many backyard growers who have supercharged my palm collecting hobby.

Thank you... just needs a bit more COLOR (lol).

For anyone wondering... the potted palm on the left is Ravenea julietia (with a couple Licuala ramsayi fronds poking in at the far left). Potted palm on the right is a Blue Decipiens (aka "Butt Ugly Betafaka"). And a C. hookeri on the far right.

Also a few of my MANY bromeliads. Huge purple one is "sanguinolenta rubra", small spider-y red plant is "Galactic Warrior" and the large one on the right is Vriesea "Magenta Flush" by David Fell. Red Abyssian Banana in the middle.

Oh if I had access to such fantastic palms at  floribunda my bank account would be zero and going into overdraft!
