Two Beccariophoenix alfredii at Disneyland Hotel in California!

Hi,

I don't think this is mentioned anywhere else online, but on the grounds of the Disneyland Hotel at the original Magical Kingdom in Anaheim, California sit two good-sized Beccariophoenix alfredii palm trees! I first noticed them about three or four years ago in person shortly after they were planted (there were about a foot or so tall.) Last evening I was watching a video on YouTube about the reopening of the Disneyland Hotel, and the video's hostess got a shot of them...the look wonderful! They must be at least 10 feet tall and in very good shape. What most impressed me is the speed in which the palms have grown. I took a couple of screen shots from the video and they're uploaded below. I'll also leave a link to the actual video since the picture quality on the video is a little better than the screen shot.

Start watching the video at the 36:34 minute mark, and you'll see the palms:

Didn't they blow up the old Disneyland Hotel? Or was that the Grand Hotel across the way? I forget; and it was so long ago... So was this a new build with the old name, or a remodel?

Oakley, California

55 Miles E-NE of San Francisco, CA

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.

Hi,

No, they didn't demolish any of the hotels at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. They are wrapping up a massive remodel of the Paradise Pier Hotel, and a new Disney Vacation Club tower has just been added to the Disneyland Hotel. There's a lot happening!

It's amazing how nature can thrive in unexpected places. Speaking of unique experiences, I remember staying at one of the hotels in Broadbeach during a family trip. Surrounded by lush palm trees, it felt like a tropical paradise. The sight of those Beccariophoenix alfredii palms at Disneyland Hotel must be truly magical.

I literally just Google searched this thread 2 days ago, and here it is, bumped to the top of the list. I was hoping someone had taken some pictures in person, though.

When I go to Disneyland , I spend a lot of time looking at the palms they have. Most of them are fairly common varieties but once in a while you see something like this. They used to be (maybe still are) very good customers of one of my favorite palm nurseries in San Diego area , Rancho Soledad Nursery. They have an awesome , huge greenhouse with some very large specimens. Palms that are very hard to find , as long as you have deep pockets! If you are ever in that area , they are worth the drive to this “out of the way” nursery. Harry
