Hello folks,

Planted these just about 3 months ago (beginning of March) from 25 gallon pots. To my knowledge they came up here from Homestead area. I've been keeping them watered... maybe every 3-5 days. Bottom fronds on three of them turned brown after about the first month or so (I already cut those off). And on one of them in particular the fronds are 'breaking' while they're still very green. To my knowledge this is about the northern limit here for these. I do have another triple that I planted about 3 years ago that looks very healthy. Is this just transplant shock? Any tips on how to save these?

Thank you in advance!

Have you had a lot of wind lately? Wind, esp. when dry, wreaks havoc on some palms. I don't think Veitchias have a lot of wind tolerance. The extreme drought we've been having is giving even drought tolerant palms (Veitchias are not those) a really hard time. But they are very fast growers and maybe the pending rainy season gives them the relief they need. But make sure they are really well watered. It may sound silly but if you hand water, spray some up on the foliage. Jeff Marcus told me a cool shower on a hot day really helps tropical palms cope with heat.

Welcome to PalmTalk!

Mine got some browning on them from the recent drought, low humidity, and persistent wind.  The nice thing is that if they are damaged, they have the speed of growth to replace their crown pretty quickly.  Has it started raining over there?

It's from the lack of rain we've been having. Watering every 3-4 days wasn't enough, especially for a new planting with the lack of rain we had over that time period. They should grow out of it now that it's raining more.

I agree that you are not watering enough, when I planted a new palm when in Florida especially in summer I watered every day until it started getting established.

Lived in Cape Coral, Miami, Orlando and St. Petersburg Florida.
