My Areca catechu Dwarfs and Semi-Dwarf are looking happy now the FL heat, humidity and, soon, rain are here. Well, all but one that is planted on the NE side of the house. I hope it cheers up when rainy season starts. Our lowest low last winter was 41F but we had weeks of dreary, funky weather and tropicals hate that. You must remember that while occasional cold nights can injure or kill, a long stretch of chilly, cloudy weather can kill them, too. But that was last winter; summer in SWFL is here. I planted them last fall after I realized they were unhappy in their pots. I'd love to germinate more for pot growing.

    I'm sure they will love the upcoming heat and rain!

    They look really good. I could never get them to live threw a fl winter but I was inland about 15 miles. I wish they were more cold hardy and more available

    John, I thought that in HI dwarf Arecas were easily available and inexpensive even in BB garden centers.

    The cold hardy issue, I agree. But I've read that dwarf Areca catechus are slightly cold hardier than normal ones. Or, maybe that's a myth.

    Hawaii is a different story. They grow great here and even in full sun. I got a 3 gallon dwarf  at a plant sale for 18$

    Lukas Nursery has a bunch of these for sale still.  They came in months ago but when I was there last week they were still all there(unless they sold out and reordered).  When I get one, I want to get a regular sized one.
